Secondary Powers are the second tier of nation right beneath the great powers, being in between 9th and 16th place based on the Total score, the combined prestige, industrial score and military score. Uncivilized nations cannot become secondary powers, even if they should have the points worthy of a place from 9th to 16th place. Unlike becoming a Great power, gaining and losing Secondary power status is immediate, as soon as your nation reaches or drops from 16th place.
Compared to uncivilized nations, secondary powers have additional options:
- Can colonize
- Can break from a Sphere of influence with the decision Leave Sphere of Influence
- +0.025 prestige/month
- +1.25 research points/day
- +25% diplomatic points/month
- +1 leadership/month
Secondary powers (along with civilized nations) can use their National Focus to increase tension in a foreign region that contains their cores to quicken the pace of a crisis happening. Nations lose this ability once they reach great power status.
