Australia starts as a part of United Kingdom and can be released. It starts out with a population around 100.000 spread across a large area. It most likely will not have any army other than its one starting brigade for a very long time. Thankfully, invasions are unlikely thanks to Australia's safe position and civilized status. Due to its position in Oceania it will get a 10% modifier to immigrant attraction and assimilation.
Australia will get a decent population over time from immigrants around the world. In the first 15 years the population will likely more than double.
When Australia can wield a decent army, Brunei,
Johore and
New Zealand(if they are independent) are the obvious nations to invade.
It does not take long for Australia to become a Great Power. Colonizing central Australia and the surrounding islands provides great amounts of prestige.
Rise to Secondary power
Australia's decent literacy can be used to research techs that give prestige. It can also wield a decent industry of cement factories. When one is secondary power, one can colonize central Australia.
